Mary Ellen Weber (born August 24, 1962) is an American executive, scientist, aviator, and a former NASAastronaut.
Education
[edit]Weber was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Bedford Heights, Ohio. She graduated from Bedford High School in 1980; received a B.S. in 1984 in chemical engineering (with honors) from Purdue University,[1] where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority;[2] received a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley in 1988;[3] and received an M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University in 2002.[3]
Pre-NASA career
[edit]As an undergrad, Weber was a chemical engineering intern at Ohio Edison, Delco Electronics, and 3M.[4] In her doctoral research at Berkeley, she explored the physics of chemical reactions involving silicon.[5] At Texas Instruments she researched new processes and revolutionary equipment for making computer chips, with SEMATECH and Applied Materials. She holds one patent[6] and published nine papers in scientific journals.

Dr. Mary Ellen Weber is founder of Stellar Strategies, LLC, consulting in strategic communications and in strategies for high-stakes operations. She also serves on the NASA Advisory Council Committee on Technology and Innovation, the board that advises NASA on its future technologies; on the Board of Trustees for Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital; on the Board of Directors for Stellar Generation, Inc., a startup company focused on producing ultraclean affordable fuel; on the Board of Directors and as Vice President for the Association of Space Explorers, the only professional society of flown Astronauts, and on the Board of Advisors for Uplift Education, a high-performing charter school system. In addition, she is an accomplished keynote speaker with over twenty years experience.
Ms. Weber was a NASA Astronaut for ten years and a veteran of two spaceflights.
