Republic of China (Taiwan)Tsai Ing-wen is the first female head of state in Taiwan's history, she was successfully re-elected in the nation’s 15th-term presidential election in 2020. Dr. Tsai serves also as the chairperson of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which she joined in 2004 and became a DPP legislator at-large thereafter. She also held the position of vice premier (2006-2007) and chairperson of DPP. Prior to that, Dr. Tsai served as the Chairperson of the Mainland Affairs Council (2000-2004), Senior Adviser to the National Security Council (1999-2000), and Senior Adviser to the Mainland Affairs Council (1994-1998). Previously, she also worked as a university professor. Dr. Tsai graduated from National Taiwan University with a Bachelor of Laws degree, obtained a Master of Laws degree from Cornell University Law School and a Ph.D. in Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Tsai Ing-wen (Chinese: 蔡英文;pinyin: Cài Yīngwén; born 31 August 1956) is a Taiwanese politician and legal scholar who served as the 7th president of the Republic of China (Taiwan) from 2016 to 2024. A member of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), she intermittently served as chair of the DPP from 2008 to 2012, 2014 to 2018, and 2020 to 2022.
Tsai was born in Taipei and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in law from National Taiwan University and Cornell University, respectively. She went to England to study law at the London School of Economics, where she received a PhD in 1984, and became a law professor. In 1993, she was appointed to a series of governmental positions by the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) party and was one of the chief drafters of the special state-to-state relations doctrine under President Lee Teng-hui.
