Blake was born James Blake Litherland on September 26, 1988 in Enfield, London, England. He is the son of musician James Litherland, and he has always had a strong interest in and ability for music. He graduated from Goldsmiths College, University of London, with a degree in Popular Music.
Blake began his music career in July 2009, when he released his debut 12" single, "Air & Lack Thereof," in the United Kingdom, while continuing to record songs in his bedroom.
